Lara Croft.
(said as a greeting.)
It is now 5:15 PM EST for me. I want to type in one more idea before I start explaining idea ‘Not add’, because once I start explaining idea ‘Not add’, I don’t plan on stopping, not until I finish explaining it. Also, this idea that I am about to explain may not be very effective if I explained it after I explained idea ‘Not add’. So, what I am going to do is explain this idea today. That way, I can begin explaining idea ‘Not add’ tomorrow.
The music video I am recommending for this idea, refurbished for this advice, of course, and you don’t have to watch it if you don’t want to, is from the song ‘Hands to Myself’ by American singer Selena Gomez. For this advice, the music video is used to show Selena Gomez in a celebrity’s house. According to Wikipedia, the celebrity is called Mason. When Mason discovers that someone is in his house without his permission, he calls the cops, and the cops arrest her. That is the premise that is used for this advice. When I use this video, I thought about the idea I call ‘predictable behavior’. That is what I imagine American companies are looking for in their employees regarding opportunities that need for their employees to have a more managed sense of predictable behavior. For example, I imagined myself offering an employee, portrayed by Selena Gomez in the music video ‘Hands to Myself’, a promotion. However, the caveat(warning or caution) is that you should be able to manage more your sense of predictable behavior. Now, in this imagined story, I have given this interview to other employees hundreds of times, and every single time, the employees showed a lot of promise, like they were applying to get into college. However, a month or so after starting her new job, she is depicted in the music video ‘Hands to Myself’, refurbished of course. That’s when you go to the scene where she gets arrested and she sings quote:
‘ I want it all, no, nothing else ‘
When Selena Gomez got arrested in the music video, that represented her using certain opportunities given to her in a way that she should not have done. With many of the employees I have given such an opportunity to, they would just disappear with the help of it’s use. Many of them also would get caught, and the company would consider doing what it can to get them out of trouble. Of course, I just imagined this story, but it’s also something I believe is happening in America. I think the reason why I imagine it to be more and more obvious is the high turnover. Think of a situation where employees with years of experience were given such an opportunity, and at least most of them would misuse such an opportunity within a month or 2. So, since the turnover is so high, instead of just offering such an opportunity to employees with years of experience, the opportunity is offered to many types of employees, even new employees to the company.
Of course, if you want to read more about the music video ‘Hands to Myself’, you can check the article of it from www.wikipedia.org.
To watch the music video ‘Hands to Myself’ for free, search for phrase ‘selena gomez hands to myself’ in www.youtube.com. It should be one of the 1st selections offered, with over 266 million views.
Of course, you’re not using the music video ‘Hands to Myself’ based on it’s literal lyrics interpretation. You’re recommended to use it based on what is shown in the music video. According to youtube, the music video was published on Jan. 20, 2016. In my opinion, the song with the music video presents a relaxing ambiance. The way Mason’s house looks, as well as his depicted wardrobe, reminds me of basic neutral colors I believe business suits usually use.
This idea is based on 2 illustrations. The 1st illustration is from the trailer of movie ‘Memoirs of a Geisha(2005)’. To watch it for free, search for phrase ‘memoirs of a geisha trailer’ in www.youtube.com, and it should be one of the 1st selections offered, with over 463 thousand views. The illustration starts 1 minute and 3 seconds into the trailer. A man is riding on his bike, and one of the women looked at him in a way that caused him to lose focus and crash his bike. Here is a quote:
‘ A true geisha can stop a man in his tracks with a single look. ‘
It could have been Mameha portrayed by Michelle Yeoh that said that quote. I’m not sure, since I only watched the trailer. And after the man crashed his bicycle, Mameha says quote:
Mameha: ‘You –are– ready.’
The 2nd illustration is from the movie ‘Ulysses(1954)’, starring Kirk Douglas as Ulysses. Of course, the illustration is refurbished for advice. The illustration is available from Amazon.com streaming rental for about 2 dollars, and for purchase about 8 dollars. According to Amazon Video, the illustration starts 55 minutes and 25 seconds into the movie, Ulysses has ordered all of his men to put wax in their ears so that they don’t hear the Sirens, except for himself. He orders Polites to tie him to a pole so that Ulysses can hear the Sirens. Here is the quote:
Ulysses: ‘Polites!’
Polites(Aldo Pini): ‘What do you want?’
Ulysses: ‘Tie me to the mast.’
Polites: ‘What?’
Ulysses: ‘Whatever I order after this, do not listen to me.’
Polites: ‘What are you trying to do?’
Ulysses: ‘I want to hear them sing.’
Polites: ‘Are you mad?’

Ulysses: ‘Tie me to the mast.’

Ulysses: ‘As tight as you can.’
So, here is the idea: The 1st illustration from ‘Memoirs of a Geisha’ is meant to illustrate that men are easily distracted by women they find attractive. When that man looked at that lady while riding his bicycle, he lost focus with what he was doing, and got into an accident. It is my belief that, in America, while teenage boys are learning to drive, that there are situations when some of those teenagers while learning to drive would get into some sort of accident because they lost focus by looking at attractive women.
The 2nd illustration is used as the basis of this story. I did not watch the movie ‘Ulysses’, but I believe that Ulysses has never heard the Sirens before. So, refurbished for advice, when Ulysses was tied to the mast, that represents a man exercising some sort of restraint and reservation at work when a woman that he finds attractive is metaphorically pulling his ear with her beauty. This is not something that I have proof of, but it is my belief that since most men do not complain about such a thing, that women pulling the ears of men with their beauty will just proliferate(to increase in number or spread rapidly and often excessively).
Fantasy Island liability:
So, this is what I think will happen when men choose to ‘tie themselves to the mast’ when interacting with such women in the workplace. I believe that the men will have regular reservation contemplations involving attractive women involved in job related opportunities. Such contemplations always involve using a sort of reservation when interacting with such women. Of course, those contemplations were encouraged to be created because they chose to use a lot of reservation and restraint when interacting with such women in the workplace. So, as they are having such restraint using contemplations, they learn to be aware of and omit certain opportunities from their chosen lifestyles, because such interactions with such women would inhibit the progress of their career goals.
Now, this result is based on the exposure to using restraint when interacting with women that are pulling the men’s ears with their beauty. If a man is not in a business oriented job, that exposure will still cause the man to contemplationally imagine interacting with women using restraint, but the contemplations will not always be business oriented. Instead, another form of contemplation will occur. I call this contemplation ‘Fantasy Island liability’. That is when the contemplations involving restraint, instead of obviously being job related, will instead be something that the man wants to happen, but in some sort of fantasy like situation. However, he may instead interpret such contemplations as job related. When I 1st discovered this idea, it took me several months to finally stop having such contemplations. For example, when I started using it, I would still think about such contemplations, but after 20 seconds or so, I would catch myself doing it, and most of the time, it was a ‘Fantasy Island liability’ contemplation, something I would actually want to happen in some sort of fantasy like situation. After a few months or so, the unusual situation finally stopped, or is no longer so obvious to think about.
Anyway, since I believe many men are of course using some sort of restraint and reservation when interacting with certain women in such a way, I made the logical conclusion that these men are, in fact, removing obvious job related opportunities from their active considerations because of such an experience. And I was wondering ‘Isn’t it possible to maintain an active consideration of such opportunities, even though such opportunities would obviously inhibit the development of your career goals?’ That is when I made an idea that illustrates the solution, and I call this idea ‘Segregation’.
Segregation:
In this story, the main character is portrayed by celebrity Sean Connery, let’s say when he was younger, what he looked like in the movie ‘Never Say Never Again’, when he portrayed James Bond. In this story, Sean Connery in the beginnings of his business career, experienced a lot of ‘ear pulling’ from women in the workplace that he found attractive. And so, he created a lot of ideas as to what job opportunities he would avoid. Eventually, he became his own boss, and took out all of those opportunities that he thought would inhibit his career goals, opportunities that he thought of because of the restraint he used when interacting with such women.
Even though Sean Connery did nothing wrong to get the job that he has now, he still believed that he was participating in some sort of segregation. He reasoned that we are human beings, after all, and by having the job that he has now, he believes that he may have encouraged a certain segregation to exist in America. And so, what he did as a solution was to allow himself to consider a few opportunities that had such obvious situations indicated by the concerns that he created when he was younger. He would take those opportunities, and actively interact with it’s consideration. However, so far, after he would accept such opportunities into his business, he would give those opportunities to another business that he has relations with. He knows a few of the people in that other company. He would sometimes play the game ‘Squash’ with one of them, he has the occasional business dinners with a few of them, and his conversations with them over the phone are always amicable.
Eventually, Sean Connery hired a man that is portrayed by celebrity Adrian Pasdar(Profit). He looks like he did when he was in the tv show ‘Profit(1996)’. While Sean Connery was looking through the usual business opportunities that they accepted, Adrian Pasdar noticed that he took a few of them out, and asked why. Sean Connery then explained to him for the 1st time that he allows himself to actively consider certain opportunities that he had in the past did not pursue to avoid a certain sense of segregation. After he would consider them, he would then give those opportunities to another company, a company they are both familiar with. Sometime during and at the end of his explanation, Adrian Pasdar was maintaining a smile. When Sean Connery finished his explanation, Adrain said quote ‘Are you serious?’. Eventually, Adrian requested that he work on those opportunities. When Adrian in a business context interacted with one of those opportunities, he met a woman that will eventually become his wife.
Since Adrian Pasdar did meet someone from one of those opportunities, that they will eventually get married, in the context of the story, Sean Connery’s concerns were not without merit. And of course, in this story, Sean Connery is still single.
Here’s another example of involving restraint that, based on my contemplations, I believe many men have thought of from time to time: A man imagines placing himself in some sort of situation involving the use of restraint, said with respectful maturity of course, and he is not able to maintain that restraint. He eventually stops thinking about it, and since he left it in that form in his mind, he probably no longer pursues such a participation and/or opportunity.
The solution I created for such a contemplation is like the solution created by Sean Connery in the ‘Segregation’ idea: Just have someone else do it. You can keep considering such a participation and/or opportunity, just allow someone else finish it. In the ‘Segregation’ idea, Sean Connery still gets credit for those opportunities he considers, even though he gives such opportunities to another company to finish.
I think the one illustration that probably gave me the idea for ‘Segregation’ is in the movie ‘Fracture(2007)’, starring Ryan Gosling as Willy Beachum, and David Strathairm as DA Joe Lobruto. The movie is available streaming rental from Amazon.com, and according to Amazon Video, the scene starts 21 minutes and 23 seconds into the episode, Mr. Beachum is talking to Mr. Lobruto. Here is the quote:
Lobruto: ‘Wow, a 97% conviction rate. That’s impressive.
Beachum: ‘Thank you, sir.’
Lobruto: ‘Course, you traded all your losing cases to other D.D.A.s.’
Beachum: ‘Well, uh…I took on two or three cases for every one I gave away. They just couldn’t handle their caseloads, and I don’t like to lose.’
PG-13 viewer discretion for movie ‘Memoirs of a Geisha’. Some viewer discretion for fantasy movie ‘Ulysses’. Rated R violence and viewer discretion for crime mystery movie ‘Fracture’.
